Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation or Simply IASTM is a manual therapy approach to musculoskeletal injuries using specifically designed tools.

The instruments magnify the abnormalities (scars, restrictions and adhesions) in the fascia and soft tissue and make it easier to locate the area to treat. Using a tool focuses the force through an area smaller than your finger and with less friction which allows different effects than can be obtained with conventional manual therapy. IASTM is especially useful for treating scar tissue, tendinopathy and other chronic conditions.

Effects of IASTM:

• Reabsorption of fibrosis or excessive scar tissue
• Breaking down of adhesions
• Remodeling of soft tissue structures
• Facilitation of healing through localised inflammation
